We all grow up during our childhood having lots of dreams in our mind not knowing when they’ll be achieved and how they’ll be achieved, infact sometimes doubting their completion itself. We would have gone through experiences where we realized that we were lucky enough to get a normal childhood, that everyone deserves, having seen other people in a condition, they don’t even deserve(people deprived of basic amenities) and suddenly a thought in our mind comes that we should do something for the needy in the future. But what we realize after we grow up is that, we have our own issues to be dealt with, let alone the needy. Day by day the world is becoming more and more selfish, poor are becoming poorer and the rich are becoming richer. The gap is ever increasing. It surely takes an extra effort from our daily schedules to even think about doing something for the needy, let alone doing.
In this regard, I really appreciate an upcoming NGO called EFC which is a team of young energetic individuals, who strive to pull out time out of their very busy schedules and take initiative to do something few have done till date(rather very few). With a very innovative and creative idea of serving the poor in a different way, team leader Mr. Sujit Lalwani through his team of leaders launched a campaign called Ebiz Footware Campaign(EFC) at the Freedom Park in Bangalore on the 62nd Republic Day of India 26th .January 2010.
On this first day of the launch - The task of every team of two people was to disperse in any direction form the park and search for at least nine needy people who bear the daily pain of walking bare feet in the scorching heat day in and day out and make their day by gifting them a pair of slippers and blessing them by involving them in a photograph to capture an emotional moment which will be remembered life long.
With this initiative, approximately 240 people were gifted new slippers all over Bangalore, covering people from downtrodden sector, from various backgrounds ranging from ragpickers to beggars to people left without attention. With this, we expect the number to rise in the coming times and make an effort to touch at least three thousand people the coming year.
I look forward to see this vision truly growing global and leaving a lasting impact, saving a million feet and protecting them and leaving smiling faces with the owners of those feet.
Long live this revolution.
